Day Two of Poetry Month...(Caution, this one verges on political, though nonpartisan...)
MONEY & THE POLE DANCE
Pray to the power gods. Place your faith in them.
How much is your vote worth? Ten bucks? Twenty bucks? A Hundred?
Go to the bank. Take out $100 and put it in $10 bills in your pocket.
Then walk down 42nd Street.
Stop at every homeless person you see.
Give each one a $10 bill, and tell them:
“Spend part of that on breakfast, and then go to the poles.
Save enough to buy a ticket for the Pole Dance.”
You don’t even have to wait till Election day.
It doesn’t matter what day you don’t vote.
Your vote doesn’t count anyway.
Imagine what would happen if all those dickhead politicians spent all those billions
On all those ads but all we dickheads agreed not to go to the pole dance and
NOBODY WON.
Imagine the grim looks on their faces.
Imagine the empty seats in congress.
Imagine if all the incumbents who weren’t re-elected knew they had to go home.
Imagine if a gigantic wind came along
And blew the White House down.
Imagine if thousands of $10 bills floated from the sky as they tried to do a re-count
And they couldn’t match up the ballots with the $10 bills and it became apparent that it just wasn’t a secure way of voting and so all the incumbents went back to Washington and agreed that before their terms ran out, before the deadline hit, they would agree to make a rule that said “No more money in politics”. All the TV stations and Radio Stations had to give each candidate 20 minutes during each campaign, and they had to choose their words very carefully.
And they could not appear on camera. And there could be no stand-ins.
That’s it.
Over and
Out.
